โRooted in sunshine, grown with love!โ
From the velvety Micans to the stunning Pink Princess, Philodendrons are low-maintenance and beautiful tropical plants that thrive in a wide range of indoor environments.
Ideal: Bright, indirect light
Tolerates: Low light (especially heartleaf types), but growth will slow
Avoid: Harsh direct sunlight โ it can fade colors and scorch leaves
๐ Pro tip: If leaves start stretching toward the light or losing variegation, itโs time to move them closer to a window.
Frequency: Water when the top 1โ2 inches of soil feel dry
Important: Avoid letting the plant sit in water โ root rot is a real threat!
Warning Signs:
Yellowing leaves = likely overwatered
Droopy, crispy leaves = probably underwatered
๐ Pro tip: Bottom watering works great for most Philodendrons. Just donโt forget to dump excess water after 15โ20 minutes.
Best Mix: Loose, chunky, and well-draining
2 parts potting mix + 1 part perlite + 1 part orchid bark is ideal
pH Range: 5.5 to 7.0 (slightly acidic to neutral)
๐ Pro tip: Add some coco coir for moisture retention without waterlogging.
Loves: 60โ80% humidity
Tolerates: Normal household levels, but may grow slower
Boost It: Use a pebble tray, humidifier, or group with other tropicals
๐ Pro tip: Mist sparingly or not at all โ too much moisture on the leaves can invite pests.
Happy Zone: 65ยฐF โ 85ยฐF (18ยฐC โ 29ยฐC)
No-Go Zone: Below 55ยฐF or drafty spots
๐ Pro tip: Keep them away from A/C vents or open windows in colder months.
Problem | Cause | Fix |
---|---|---|
Yellow leaves | Overwatering | Let soil dry more between watering |
Brown leaf tips | Low humidity or underwatering | Boost humidity or water more regularly |
Curling leaves | Too much sun or dry air | Move to indirect light, increase moisture |
Drooping stems | Underwatering or root issues | Check roots & soil moisture |
Climbing types: Add a moss pole or stake for vertical support
Trailing types: Let them hang or wrap around shelving
Fertilizer: Feed monthly in spring/summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer (diluted)
Pruning: Trim leggy growth to encourage bushiness
๐ Pro tip: Use clean scissors to avoid spreading bacteria during pruning.
